Hi, I am mesmoiron, indiehacker and steward of makea
Join me with Tabu, a social media platform where Integrity is worth more than Profits.
The Baobab is not the grandest tree in the desert, nor does it try to be. The Baobab is not about power, but instead the tree is about care.
Despite the harsh desert environment, one Baobab tree can moisten the soil, recycle nutrients, slow soil erosion, and yield fruit such that any plants and animals surrounding it flourish! Under its branches, life finds its shelter and families find their protection.
My goal is to create a social media platform which creates a safe and healthy space to connect with your friends while supporting real life interactions, just as the Baobab tree creates a safe space below its branches.
It CROWNs its space. With Care, Repurpose and Ownership such that its surrounding flourishes. Life finds shelter, families protect it by ancient wisdom!
I plan to build Tabu, my social media platform, with a structure that promotes peace rather than conflict. Ethical behavior is strongly encouraged among both businesses and individuals!
I want to allow Tabu‘s users to build trust with one another through genuine relationships, gradually improving their friendship over time. People can plant their roots under the branches of Tabu, instead of withering due to the harsh environment. Most social media platforms use unethical behavior to make money, leaving people feeling defeated and depressed. It doesn’t have to be that way! Let’s solve this issue together!
I have started inviting schools in the Netherlands, the place I know best. Until now, I kept it much a secret. Only a few kids know what I am doing. Since fundraising takes way more time than I had anticipated, and I have a great supportive team, that got me this far; I have decided to also start with crowdfunding. Each round will last 34 days; only through ING. After that, I will update for the next round. You can help build that great place. Donate something, and send me your most annoying social media problem, you want to get rid of. Send it in the form below.
A stark contrast from other social media
Tabu won’t be perfect at first. We’ll have to grow it from the ground up, just like a Baobab tree. But I believe that together we can build this platform to be a thriving, peaceful ecosystem for everyone to enjoy.
Unlike other social media, we will be focused on peaceful collaboration, rather than power and dominance. That’s where the magic, humor, and fun of this platform will come from! Join me with this project, and it could be your golden ticket. Together, we can grow this sapling into a beautiful Baobab tree!
Remember:” Growing from nothing, imperfect, developing Integrity by doing. You know the features; we will implement them by growing contributions, but in a different way. That’s where the magic happens, the humor comes, your collaborations give you The Golden Ticket“.
Because I like to innovate, because I have a warm, generous hart. I like to help, but better, I like to give others an opportunity to do itself. That’s why I put the bolt idea together to wrap a charity in a tech startup. Building the foundation and infrastructure for something new. This also means, that societal systems are not yet ready for this kind of thinking. However, there’s always a first time for everything. Tech startups can become much larger and, when done the right way, help way more people. It all depends on leadership. Tabu Socials Kids will have an educational layer to help with this new way of thinking. Better yet, it will have all the dashboards you’ll like. Kids can learn about data science while playing around. No need to ban social media; just make a place that’s different and a safe haven. Where you learn the skills before going out on adventure on the wider internet.

Nasty Hidden Features?
At Makea and our project Tabu Socials (kids) we are committed to inclusion, diversity, and equal career opportunities. We believe each person has unique experiences that provide unique perspectives that are valuable to our company and society at large. Our focus is on quality-driven gender equality, inclusion of people with disability, and equal access to opportunity.
We believe that a workforce composed of people from diverse cultural backgrounds helps us design education solutions that enrich the lives of teachers and young learners who use our app.
We believe in a practical and continuous implementation of equality and inclusion in our company’s operations. We plan to break down any existing barriers so that we can achieve a vibrant, creative space where everyone, regardless of gender, ability, or background, can thrive. This is what inclusion means to us.
To ensure that our equality plan remains on track, we will monitor our progress at every stage of our equality journey and make improvements along the way. We are committed to remaining transparent through this entire process.
Anyone is welcome to join us at Tabu (kids), no matter what gender they may be. Our goal is to remove any gender-based barriers so that you can achieve your ambitions, develop your skills, and overcome any obstacles. While we have yet to overcome all challenges in this area, we encourage employees who face any biases or prejudices to use our harassment reporting system.
Our goal is to create a space where everyone feels welcome. This is why we have set aside resources to spread awareness about gender inclusion among employees.
Since women are severely underrepresented in senior positions in our industry, we have decided that every project in our company must include at least one woman in a senior role.
We have taken steps to make our processes and premises accessible to people with disabilities. Our highest priorities include implementing accessibility in communication, participation, and digital environments.
We also have programs where we collaborate with people with disabilities in creating work environments that are accessible to everybody.
In all our future upskilling and internship programs, we will prioritize underrepresented groups, especially women in tech fields. We also encourage our interns and employees to learn from one another and listen to each other’s point of view.
Our commitment to sharing the outcomes of our equality program publicly is unwavering. Given our pre-seed status, we will monitor and share our progress as resources permit. For example, at this point, our equality programs may need more resources for effective implementation.
Since we are a pre-seed startup, implementing rigid diversity quotas may not always be possible. That is why we are taking a more flexible approach where we pay more attention to:
